FLU SEASON IS HERE!
AND WE ARE HAPPY TO SAY, SO IS THE FLU VACCINE!
The VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System is offering flu vaccinations to its veterans. During late fall and winter seasons, annual epidemics of influenza lead to high rates of hospitalizations and deaths. Serious illness and death are highest among persons aged 65 years or older, children aged younger than 2 years, and persons of any age who have medical conditions that place them at increased risk for complications from influenza. Yearly vaccination against influenza is the most effective method for preventing influenza virus infections and its complications.
The Denver Medical Center Flu Hotline was activated the last week in September, 2007. Call the main hospital number at (303)399-8020 or toll-free 1-(888)336-8262. When prompted, enter ext. 7514 for the latest information regarding flu shot availability. We have the following events planned:
Flu shots may be given at the time you have your Primary, Specialty, or Mental Health clinic appointment. (No walk-in appointments available)
When you come to the clinic, ask one of the nurses to check if you are due for a pneumovax injection. It is given twice in your lifetime after the age of 65 years. The vaccine protects you against 23 different kinds of pneumonia!
Additional options are available if you live closer to Aurora, Burlington, Lakewood, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, La Junta, or Alamosa clinics. Call the individual clinic for flu shot information.
